On Sept. 16 at the ETSU Farmers Market, Buctainment hosted an event where on-campus professors and students alike could try their luck at axe throwing.

“I’m more than glad to be able to come out and provide students with the joy of axe throwing in a safe, but fun way,” said Josh Hyder, an axe-throwing enthusiast recognized for his skill and mastery in the sport.

While axe throwing is a super fun activity, it does have its necessary safety precautions that need to be followed. All participators were required to sign a waiver and be shown how to properly throw an axe before participating.

Each person had five chances to throw the axe and hit the target. Patrons were able to either wait back in line following their turn, or come back later, though it only lasted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a popular time-frame for classes. It was a free event, and everyone was allowed to try for as long as they wanted!

Attendees had a great time trying to hit the target, and some would even make it a challenge with their friends and peers to see who could hit the target first!

Hyder said, “I’m so happy all the students really enjoyed the challenge of throwing an axe, but overall it was great seeing all the smiling faces of the students.”

Allie Collins, Marketing Chair for Buctainment, and Caelan Peterson, a Graduate Assistant for Student Center Activities and Events, encourage, “[Don’t] miss out on the upcoming farmers markets! There will be more fun opportunities coming soon!”

The ETSU Farmers Market will be held every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the tail end of September and the whole of October. Vendors are set up on the Pride Walk between the Culp and Nicks Hall.

Students should follow @etsubuctainment on Instagram for Buctainment updates and events.
