COVID-19 has caused event planning and attending very difficult. However, thankfully we have been able to regain some sense of normalcy over the past several months, and this includes being able to see live music and performances.
Places like New Beginnings, often coined as Newbies, has live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night with drag shows and a live DJ. You can often see special performances and contest and actively participate in the audience with the drag queens and kings.
There is often live, outdoor entertainment at King Mercardo’s downtown. You can see bands and drag queens weekly, and sometimes more than that. Food and alcohol is served through local vendors.
Bars like Capones often have live music in their downstairs portion, nicknamed the vault. You can see bands that the locals love and the owners have handpicked. With a pub upstairs, you can dance the night away to music and hop upstairs to eat when you get tired, an experience that includes being in the very beautiful downtown areas.
Downtown Johnson City is a very special place. With restored buildings that are over a hundred years old, downtown has a small, quaint feel. In the summer, you will typically see two local festivals crowding the street with people from all over, eager to get a taste of our unique environment.
Fridays after Five is also just one of the many things that the downtown area offers. Bring a chair and a friend and listen to live bands every Friday. With several local breweries and tap houses around, several order food to the park and spend their Fridays unwinding and having a nice drink.
You can enjoy an evening at the park, a great way to meet new people. Dogs and children are welcome, so consider it family friendly. People are always around that area, and what an amazing chance to connect and learn more about the area and the people in it.
This is just a small list of things that Johnson City has to offer, but they are a great way to enjoy music and/or a show, the outdoors and support our local businesses!
