The CIDA (Chronic Illness and Disease Awareness) women’s health product drive has been happening through the week for women in need of supplies in Mountain City.
Shelby Cade, a member and president of the CIDA, explained the progress that the organization has made over the past few days.
“We’ve so far collected around 500 different women’s supplies, and we still have a few more days left,” said Cade.
Cade said that she and the rest of the organization are happy about the turnout of supplies they have received already, and that all of the donations are going to The Women of Mountain City group.
The Women of Mountain City serves the Johnson County area with necessary women’s health products. The organization does not limit period products to distribute, so anything involving hygiene is included. The products include tampons, pads, menstrual cups, soap, pantyliners, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
WMC also expands their services to not just Johnson County but also serves the Washington County and Carter County areas by distributing “period packs” to those without shelter or at an insecure housing state.
Cade believes this is a very important project. She believes the CIDA will make a difference in the lives of others, even if it just involves providing necessary supplies for women free of charge.
“This project is important because it gets products to some women that may not have access to them or be able to afford them,” said Cade.
Cade mentioned the success the women’s health product drive has already had. Donations from students and faculty from campus does not go unnoticed, and it is helping a great cause for women.
The product drive is from Oct. 25 to Nov. 7. For more information about how to donate to the CIDA women’s health product drive or how to help the Women of Mountain City, contact cadesl@etsu.edu.
