ETSU-Con is set to return to campus April 2-3, 2022, in a few short weeks. ETSU is welcoming artists, vendors, voice actors, ETSU faculty and alumni, as well as people from the community to enjoy and be a part of the event.

ETSU-Con is an annual multi-genre pop culture convention on campus at ETSU. However, due to Culp Center renovations in 2019 and later Covid-19 protocols, the event had sadly been postponed on campus for the past three years.

Nick Papworth, Convention Chair at ETSU-Con, spoke on the importance of ETSU-Con to the culture of the campus.

“ETSU-Con serves two main purposes, the first of which is to showcase what ETSU has and what other colleges do not, particularly in terms of maybe more ‘nerd adjacent’ courses, such as the Japanese Cultural program and Digital Media program,” said Papworth.

He also spoke on the second purpose of ETSU-Con.

“This convention was created to bring fun and exciting things for people to do on a given weekend, which is why we schedule it for the middle of the semester when the weather is beginning to get more pleasant. This adds to the atmosphere of campus and gives students, community members, staff and even potential students a chance to experience an event on campus.”

Masking is encouraged at the event. Members can still look great in their cosplay, even when wearing a mask. They encourage students to respect masking, vaccinated or not, and respect the health situations of those in attendance and their families at home. If any attendee needs a mask, they can check ETSU’s COVID Dashboard on where to obtain a free mask.

ETSU-Con will also be having a Super Smash Bros. tournament, which will be hosted by Twitch streamer FullMast, otherwise known as Kevin Mask. There will also be a Halo Infinite tournament as well. Links to register can be found on ETSU-Con’s socials.

ETSU Esports will be hosting a two-day collegiate esports LAN tournament at ETSU-con! The program will go toe-to-toe against other college universities from across the country. The teams will be competing in League of Legends and Rocket League.
