SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Minor league baseball will be back in action when the Tennessee Smokies take to the field to face the Chattanooga Lookouts on opening day, April 8, at Smokies Stadium.

Following the MLB lockout, some concerns were raised as to whether or not MiLB teams would find themselves without some players, but a deal was reached in time to ensure the season for both MLB and MiLB.

The Lookouts, an in-state rival coming off a (58-54) record, always make for a great opponent to the Smokies. The three game series between the two teams will conclude on April 10, before the Smokies hit the road for a six game series at the Montgomery Biscuits.

The Smokies, a Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, are coming off a losing season last year (46-63) and hope to turn around what has been a disappointing stretch for the Southern League team.

The team, currently playing in the Smokies Stadium, has been in the same spot since 2000, just off Interstate-40. They were recently announced to be moving into Knoxville for the 2025 season. The new stadium, expected to be modeled after Wrigley Field, will also have a smaller version of ‘Wrigleyville,’ the surrounding neighborhood of the iconic ballpark, that looks to bring new retail opportunities to the location.

Once the move to the $74 million stadium is complete, the team will also be renamed to the ‘Knoxville Smokies.’

Until then, the Tennessee Smokies will take to their home field for the last 22 seasons, starting on opening day, April 8.
