The Tree Streets yard sale event took place on Saturday, Sept. 10, as shoppers braved the wind and rain to find some unique antiques and affordable sales.

The event has taken place annually for the past thirty two years on the Saturday after Labor Day and is hosted by the Southside Neighborhood Organization (SNO). Located in Johnson City, the organization is run by a group of citizens who are dedicated to improving the local area and organizing events for the entire community to enjoy.

Abraham McIntyre, the organization’s yard sale coordinator, said the main goal for the SNO is to make Johnson City a better place for people to live.

“We feel that in a neighborhood where people know each other it is a safer space to be and more supportive,” McIntyre stated.

The Tree Streets Yard Sale is one of the events designed to bring the community together and for people to find some interesting items as well.

“’One person’s trash is another person’s treasure’ is a big theme for the event,” McIntyre said.

Over 150 sellers participated in this year’s yard sale set up throughout the 35 block radius ranging from Walnut Street, to University Parkway, to Roan Street and back.

“Another exciting part about the event is that a lot of our sellers use the money they make at the yard sale event as donations for local non-profits,” McIntyre added.

Although the yard sale event has already passed for this year, students can still look forward to other upcoming events hosted by the SNO and are encouraged to get involved as well. Music in the Park will take place on Oct. 9, and the Plant Swap event will take place on Sept. 22.

“For us, the more people that come out, the better the events will be,” said McIntyre.
