This Friday, Sept. 23, the newsworthy movie “Don’t Worry Darling” will be premiering in theaters across the country.

“Don’t Worry Darling” is a psychological thriller film that is directed by Olivia Wilde, starring Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Chris Pine and KiKi Layne. This film is based on a story by Carey Van Dyke and Shane Van Dyke.

This film is following after Wilde’s success with her film “Booksmart,” an award-winning coming-of-age film earning 25 million in the box office in March of 2019. Filming for “Don’t Worry Darling” began in October of 2020, right after Harry Styles replaced actor Shia LaBeouf for the role of Jack Chambers in the film after controversy following LaBeouf.

The film was premiered at the Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 5, 2022 leading up to its release on Sept. 23.

However, while many fans of Pugh and Styles are excited to see the premiere, critics have been expressing their boredom with the trope and their criticism of the acting within the film.

On the popular review website Rotten Tomatoes, the critic consensus came to the following: “Despite an intriguing array of talent on either side of the camera, “Don’t Worry Darling” is a mostly muddled rehash of overly familiar themes.”

The overall synopsis of the film seems quite intriguing to many movie-goers who are not professional movie critics. According to the official movie website, “Alice and Jack are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why.”

The movie is projected to earn almost $20 million in the opening weekend, and they are expecting most of the earnings to come from young adults, per Deadline.
