ETSU’s cybersecurity team won third place in the regional round of the 2023 Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition.

ETSU’s cybersecurity team competed along with 32 other teams at the Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition this year. The team placed third overall in the competition allowing them, with the other top eight teams, to move on to the regional round.

In the growing field of technology, cybersecurity has become more popular and important in today’s education and careers. It is important for ETSU to offer ways for students to participate and learn about this field.

The team consists of eight members and is directed by Biju Bajracharya, assistant professor in the Department of Computing. The team is led by the team captain and president of the cybersecurity club, Preston Cunningham.

Tony Pittarese, dean of the College of Business and Technology, thinks this win is just an example of how hard the students, faculty and department are working this year.

“ETSU’s cybersecurity program is preparing students to meet the demands of the contemporary business environment and help organizations secure their valuable resources. The success of this team illustrates the great work underway by our students and faculty,” said Pittarese.

The cybersecurity team has been hard at work this year to achieve their title and they will remain consistent going into the next competitions. Winning third place in the Southeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition is a huge accomplishment for ETSU’s team and they hope to continue to make waves in the cybersecurity world.

Cybersecurity is not only a hot topic, but also a growing career. With the cybersecurity club and competition team, students can learn how they can be a part of this technology and ways to interact online.
