The 2023 ETSU SGA Spring Concert was held on Saturday, April 22, at the Ballad Health Athletic Center on campus. Jason Derulo, Rainbow Kitten Surprise and special guest Andi all performed their own sets with the concert beginning at 7 p.m.
Andi was the first artist to perform, immediately energizing the crowd with her covers of Miley Cyrus’s “Party in the U.S.A” and Taylor Swift’s “You Belong with Me.”
“Are there any Swifties in the house,” Andi asked the audience before playing the “Fearless” track.
She finished out her set with her most popular hit “Crazier Best Friend,” encouraging all the best friends in the audience to sing along together.
Jason Derulo was up next to the stage. Due to an undisclosed circumstance, Derulo was late arriving to the venue, so his DJ Sincere Show entertained the crowd by playing a variety of songs.
Derulo finally arrived about 15 minutes later, but certainly made up for his tardiness with the top-end production and energy that was brought to the stage. He opened with his classic hit “Whatcha Say” to a cheering crowd.
The backup dancers were certainly a highlight of the show, as they performed their choreographed routines to songs such as “Wiggle,” “Ridin’ Solo” and “Swalla” feat. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign.
“I’m definitely not taking nights like these for granted,” Derulo said as he took in the crowd. Derulo also gave a shout out to ETSU multiple times throughout the set, ending with “Want to Want Me” as multiple confetti cannons sent gold and silver streamers into the air.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise (RKS) closed out the show, but unfortunately many concert goers had to leave before they even got on stage due to the extended wait period in-between sets that was close to 40 minutes.
RKS still got the crowd to their feet as they sang hits such as “Mr. Redundant,” “Wasted” and “First Class.” Their stage design was also a highlight, as multicolored rainbow lights shined out into the crowd.
Overall, the 2023 SGA Spring Concert was a hit, even if there were a few hiccups along the way. The variety of artists and genres of music offered something for everyone in attendance, allowing students to blow off some steam before finals week begins.
