Men’s golf competed at the Southern Conference Championship in Greensboro, Georgia from April 23-25, where they took home the first place team title for the third year in a row as well as first place for the individual title.
The team was able to register a 14-under-par 247, which placed them ahead of Chattanooga and Furman by three shots.
Freshman Matthew Dodd-Berry (Wirral, England) finished the day with a score of 66s while tying his previous best round. He earned seven birdies overall, four of which came on the final holes of the day.
Sophomore Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway) also earned seven birdies and a score of 66 after the first round, leaving Ege and Dodd-Berry tied for the individual lead.
The team shot 22 birdies together on Sunday.
Monday’s play continued successfully for the team. After posting 7-under 281, making their total 21-under-par 555, they remained in the lead with Chattanooga’s 20-under-par 556 right behind them.
During the individual scoring on Monday, Chattanooga’s Paul Conroy jumped ahead of Dodd-Berry and tied the lead with Ege with a combined score of 134 from both rounds. Dodd-Berry followed in third place with a score of 135, and junior Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) found himself in a tie for sixth place with 141.
On the final day of the competition coming up on the final nine holes, the team faced an 11-shot shortfall. They pulled hard the rest of the day and finished the competition with their third straight SoCon Championship trophy with 30-under-par 834.
Ege won the individual title, ending day three with a score of 68 and an overall score of 14 under-par 202. The second-place winner was fellow Buccaneer Dodd-Berry, finishing Tuesday with a 71 and setting his overall score for the tournament 10-under-par 206.
