ETSU men’s tennis opened the fall season with three matches in Nashville at the Belmont Fall Invitational. The Bucs played Belmont, Tennessee Tech and Lipscomb over the course of three days.
On Sept. 8, the Bucs played Belmont and went 1-2 in doubles, while Belmont swept the six singles matches. The next day, ETSU turned things around and went 5-2 in singles and 3-0 in doubles against Tennessee Tech. On the last day, the Bucs matched against Lipscomb. ETSU went 1-2 in doubles and 3-3 in singles.
Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) and Alberto Garcia (Alicante, Spain) went 2-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles. Milledge Cossu (Miami Beach, Fla.) and Pedro Cressoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) went 1-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.
Last season, the Bucs won their fifth straight Southern Conference Tournament title, defeating No. 1 seed Chattanooga to advance to the NCAA Tournament. The Bucs look to continue their success and return seven players from last season’s squad. The team also welcomes back three-time SoCon player of the year Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela).
The Bucs will play in the three-day Elon Invitational, starting on Sept. 15.
