Students were welcomed out to the Challenge Course for a night of fun and fright on Oct. 31.

The ETSU Outdoor Adventure program put on “Halloween Howl”, a free event open to students of all fitness and experience levels for a chance to experience the three-level challenge course and the zipline.

“We wanted to allow students an opportunity to do the challenge course and thought Halloween would be a fun day to have an open event on. Getting involved with Outdoor Adventure or any other section of Campus Recreation is a great way to meet other students,” said Sarah Williams, graduate assistant of the outdoor adventure program.

From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., students had the opportunity to roast marshmallows for s’mores, eat campfire pies, challenge their strength on the high-ropes tower, be spooked on their descent down on the giant swing, “howl at the moon” as they rode the ziplines or enjoy the warmth of the fire on the cold night. The students that dared to make their way through the aerial course were provided with buckets of candy on each level as a reward for progressing through the obstacles.

“My favorite part of the event was seeing everyone’s costumes and seeing some new faces. We had a great turnout, and we are excited for our next Challenge Course events and are hoping to get even more students involved!” said Williams.

Campus Recreation’s Outdoor Adventure program is part of the Basler Center of Physical Activity and focuses on providing opportunities for students to experience a variety of outdoor activities. They offer on and off-campus activities such as backpacking, paddleboarding, camping and so much more. They are located behind the climbing wall in the CPA and can also be found on Instagram @etsucampusrec for information on upcoming trips, activities or equipment rental.
