On Friday, Nov. 17, the Board of Trustees held a meeting in the D.P. Culp Student Center. The meeting was in regard to the academic, research and student success committee.
The meeting was from 8-9:45 a.m., discussing and figuring out ways to improve student education, engagement and student life. The Board of Trustees is a committee that manages ETSU’s budgets, tuition and seeks ways to improve education.
Different people from different colleges spoke out on ways to implement different courses and strategies to enhance ETSU’s student’s education.
Provost, Kimberly McCorkle and Vice Provost, Michael Hoff, spoke about Quality Assurance Funds (QAF), general education assessments and academic programs. McCorkle and Hoff discovered ways to improve these different aspects that will aid in keeping students focused and engaged.
McCorkle and Hoff mentioned the welcoming of science mechatronics courses, which will be introduced in Fall 2024.
Quillen Chair of Excellence in Teaching and Learning Professor of Special Education, Dawn Rowe, shared her ideas on growing and empowering special needs students.
“Every individual should have the opportunity to engage in high quality educational experiences that align and expand their interests and aspirations,” stated Rowe.
Rowe discussed projects that are the work, one being Access ETSU, which will help students change their behavioral awareness and knowledge skills.The long term goal is to help students in special education understand their environment in social, economic and civic conditions.
The Board of Trustees is working hard to ensure that students at ETSU are getting the higher education that they deserve. This means implementing new programs, policies and steps to aid in a higher graduation rate and making ETSU feel like home for students.
