From free Chick-fil-A to discounted Dollywood tickets, ETSU’s Student Government Association has been hard at work this semester.

SGA President, Trent White recounted SGA’s highlights of the semester. “So, this semester we started quickly by implementing a variety of different things,” said White.

One of the biggest and most exciting changes this semester was students being able to use a meal swipe after the dining hall closes at Chick-fil-A from 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. “That’s something we’re really proud of, it’s really enhanced the dining experience on campus,” said White.

White said the addition was the most well received and surprising. White shared that at the beginning of the semester, Chick-fil-A averaged around 180 students per night. It was predicted that those numbers would drop below 90, however the average has consistently been reported around 170 students per night.

Discounted Dollywood tickets as well as extended bookstore hours during the first week of school were implemented this semester. A game day shuttle was introduced to help students living in residence halls or Buc Ridge to attend football games. “It’s helped enhance the overall game day experience for the community,” said White.

White is looking forward to carrying out new legislation in the spring semester. White said, “We’ve passed three academic policy resolutions that will hopefully come to fruition in the spring.” Those resolutions include a designated study day during finals week, where students have the day off from assignments, quizzes or tests and a syllabus policy where no work can be assigned over breaks.

Another resolution White hopes to pass is installing ice machines in residential halls. “We are hoping to make some ground on that over the break and then into the spring semester,” said White. “I don’t have a timeline on that yet, but I’m excited to see that come to fruition.”

Next semester, SGA will continue to advocate for the Pride Walk to stay where it is. White shared that its location has been a big discussion over the last few months as the construction for the new academic building carries on.

White hopes to carry the momentum from the fall into spring and hopes students will be excited to come back from winter break. “I want this to be a bump in the road that when we come back students are pumped to be home at ETSU,” said White.
