ETSU women’s tennis team had a competitive match against the Clemson Tigers, with both success and challenges. Unfortunately, the Lady Bucs fell to Clemson 4-3.
The Lady Bucs started off Friday’s match by winning the first doubles win of the season. Freshman Alessandra Caceres (Calama, Chile) and senior Sofia Markova (Nuremberg, Germany) conquered Clemson’s No. 2 doubles team, 7-5.
Additionally, senior Fernanda Carvajal’s (Queretaro, Mexico) three set victory and singles wins by junior Daniela Rivera (Maturin,Venezuela) and junior Ralista Alexandrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) showcased the team’s strong determination.
Singles competition:
- Eleni Louka (CU) def. Markova 4-6, 7-6, (7-2), 7-6, (7-3)
- Carvajal def. Cristina Mayorova (CU) 7-5, 4-6, 6-0
- Rivera def. Jenna Thompson (CU) 6-4, 6-3
- Aliana Tsyurpalevych (CU) def. freshman Jana Rovira (Puigcerda, Spain) 7-6, (0-1), 6-4
- Sophia Hatton (CU) def. Caceres 7-5, 7-6, (7-2)
- Alexandrova def. Leigh Van Zyl (CU) 6-3, 6-2
Doubles competition:
- Jenna Thompson/Eleni Louka (CU) def. Carvajal/Rivera (6-3)
- Caceres/Markova def. Cristina Mayorova/ Leigh Van Zyl (CU) (7-5)
- Sophia Hatton/Aliana Tsyurpalevych (CU) def. Rovira/Alexandrova (6-0)
The ETSU women’s tennis team will have another challenging match against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Sunday at 1p.m. It’s an exciting opportunity for the team to bounce back and showcase their skills against another ACC opponent. The Hokies have already started off strong this season. Winning their first match of the season against Radford, (6-1).
