This year, ETSU’s Mascot, Bucky the Buccaneer, was selected to compete in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Mascot Contest in order to crown the best mascot in the SoCon. Bucky is up against other university mascots in the SoCon and is asking for students to vote daily in order for him to win.
“Bucky is very fun, Bucky is very spirited, Bucky embodies what it means to be a Buccaneer and this is our chance to rally behind our mascot and prove that he is the best mascot in the SoCon,” says Marketing and Communications Specialist, Rachel Howard, in the office of University Marketing and Communications.
The SoCon Mascot Contest, sponsored by Ingles, selects mascots to compete for votes by creating video skits that students can view. This is the first year that Bucky has been selected for the contest, giving him the opportunity to compete to win $1,000 for their athletic scholarship program. At the end of the contest, Ingles will also donate $1,000 to Hoops Against Hunger on behalf of the winning university.
“It’s also something easy and fun that students can get engaged in and talk about and share with their classmates,” says Howard.
Bucky is excited to be making several appearances around campus this coming week in order to ask for your vote. You can be on the lookout for Bucky carrying his voting QR code at games, events and around the D.P. Culp Student Center.
“If you’re out and you see Bucky, make sure to say ‘hey’ and scan the QR code that he’s carrying to vote for him,” says Howard.
In order to help Bucky win, students can vote once daily until the end of the contest. Voting ends after the men’s semi final games on March 8. You can vote at https://soconchallenge.wpengine.com/mascot-challenge/ or by searching https://www.ingles-markets.com/mascotchallenge/.
