On Wednesday, March 6, the ETSU community came together to welcome Dunkin’ Donuts into its new space in Sherrod Library.

“Today marks the grand opening of Dunkin’ Donuts right here in Sherrod Library,” said SGA president Trent White. “A space where academic pursuits will now be complemented by the smell of freshly brewed coffee and pretty great donuts.”

Dunkin’ Donuts was originally an idea formed by prior executive members of the Student Government Association.

“Several years ago this [Dunkin’] came from an SGA resolution and I want to thank the students for their patience with the administration as we moved through the renovation process,” said ETSU president Brian Noland. “As students you quite often plant seeds that may not have the opportunity to come to fruition until long after you graduated.

But when they come to fruition, they benefit future generations of students and that’s what’s happening here today.”

Jeremy Ross said in a prior interview with East Tennessean staff that a survey showed Einstein Bagels to be favored the least across campus. Therefore, Dunkin’ Donuts took its place.

“This Dunkin’ addition is more than just a caffeine infused celebration,” said White. “It’s a tangible reflection of our university’s continuous commitment to growth and enhancement.”

Dunkin’ was originally set to open in January before students returned for the spring semester. However, ETSU Facilities, along with Preston Construction, faced difficulties with delays and manufacturing shipping errors.

“I would like to thank [Sherrod Library] Dean [David] Atkins for making this library a home to our students, and that’s testament because he’s up 15 to 20% in visits this year, and that Dunkin’s will be part of that home,” said Joe Sherlin, vice president for student life and enrollment.

Its former occupant, Einstein Bagels, was closed for renovations at the beginning of the fall semester in 2023.

Dunkin’ Donuts is open Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed on the weekends.
