Local coffee shop Blue’s Brews Co. is home to many ETSU students. Whether stopping in for a hot drink, locally crafted pastry, end of day brew or a cozy spot to study for an exam, students and the community alike find comfort in this company.

Blues Brews Co. started its journey in an airstream back in March 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic exploded. Owner Sarah Colson said, “I wanted to open a storefront, but we didn’t have the funds. So, I thought this would be a fun way to get into the coffee world. Four days after we opened the stay-at-home order went into effect, so that was really scary, but since we had a mobile business, we didn’t have to change anything about how we operate.”

After two and a half years of operating out of the airstream, the business began operations out of a brick-and-mortar store. Located in suite 40 at 109 Cherry St., the downtown business is decorated with string lights, hanging plants, lounge chairs ranging from big to small and a greenery background perfect for snapping a picture of your order of the day. The business offers drinks hot, cold, coffee and not coffee as well as sweet and savory pastries from local businesses such as Crumb Bakeshop and Lazy Lady Baking Company. Blue’s Brews is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Wednesday with slightly later hours Thursday to Saturday, catering to the early birds and night owls of the community.

The downtown business recently received their beer license, giving individuals the freedom to enjoy a range of craft and commercial beers in an atmosphere unlike the traditional bar. They also host events throughout the week, suitable for groups of all ages. For more information about seasonal menus and their events be sure to check out their Instagram @bluesbrewsco.
