Student Wellness hosts events throughout the month of April to spread knowledge and discussion about Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
On April 3, ETSU’s Student Wellness program Wellness2Go hosted the “Keep It Safe and Sexy” (K.I.S.S.) event, the second event of the week focused around Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The event aimed at educating students about healthy relationships and sexual health.
Halie Darby, assistant director of student wellness, said, “Student Wellness is recognizing this important month and hosting several events throughout April to prevent sexual violence, provide education and support survivors of sexual violence within the ETSU community.”
ETSU students started the month with the annual “Walk a Mile in Their Shoes” event to highlight gender inequalities and sexual violence. Events will continue throughout the month to raise awareness and educate students about sexual assault.
Aside from these events focused on Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Wellness2Go will host seminars all throughout the year based around health that all students can get involved in. Student Wellness focuses on educating and helping students in all aspects of their well-being.
“Students can learn more about the programs being offered at campusrec@etsu.edu or by viewing the master calendar. Students seeking resources beyond Sexual Assault Awareness Month can email wellness@etsu.edu or register for a Wellness Consultation at the Basler Center for Physical Activity,” said Darby.
The next event hosted by Student Wellness for Sexual Assault Awareness Month will be the annual “Take Back the Night” festival. This event will take place on April 11 at the Center for Physical Activity courtyard and raise awareness about the safety of women alone at night. The event will start at 7:30 p.m and all students are welcome.
ETSU strives to be a safe place for everyone and educating and starting conversations during Sexual Assault Awareness Month is impactful for every student on campus.
