With a 4-3 win against SoCon opponent, The Citadel, the ETSU men’s Tennis team have officially captured the Southern Conference Championship. With a 10-9 overall record, the Bucs were able to finish with a flawless 7-0 record in conference play. This year’s conference championship marks the 12th overall, and fourth in the last five seasons for our University.

During the matchup against The Citadel Bulldogs, the Bucs initially faced a setback, dropping all three doubles matchups. Despite the slow start, star players, seniors, Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) and Millege Cossu (Miami Beach, Fla.) were able to smash the competition in singles competition. Badra would go on to defeat Hayden Shoemake (CIT) 6-3, and 6-4. With Cossu defeating Sebastian Kaminiecki (CIT) 6-4, 6-2 respectfully. Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) and Lucas Britez (Paraguay) would also rise victorious in their singles’ competition as well.

With the 7-0 record in SoCon play, the Bucs have clinched the top seed for next week’s SoCon Men’s Tennis tournament. Competition is set to begin in Chattanooga on April 18. The Bucs are scheduled to play the soon-to-be announced eighth seeded SoCon Tennis team in the first round. With their eyes set on adding yet another championship to their storied legacy, the ETSU men’s tennis team stands poised to make a formidable run in the postseason.

Overall, the ETSU men’s tennis team has had a remarkable season. Even throughout the ups and downs, the unwavering commitment to excellence and pursuit of success has carried the team. However, the next phase of the season is now here, as the SoCon tournament is certain to bring new waves of competition as the rest of the conference teams will bring their own A-game during tournament play.
