The new organization Women in Business looks to uphold the values of connection, success, community and belonging for women in their careers and academic life at ETSU. Part of the 20 organizations and counting offered in the College of Business and Technology, the club encourages student success and career-making opportunities for any individual interested, even if not enrolled in the college.

Jordan Fanuele is the president and cofounder of Women in Business and took part in its creation during this past summer. As president, she oversees operations to do with team members and event turnouts, making sure that not only is everyone having an enjoyable experience, but that there are key takeaways every member can walk away with.

“We are in a male dominated field, so it is a great way for women to feel supported by one another and to also get networking resources,” said Fanuele.

Noting that business has been a male-dominated field in the past, Women in Business offers a space where women can empower each other, their community and careers alike. With guest speakers and common goals, participants will be offered opportunities such as resume building, internship outlets and a safe space to go beyond professional relationships.

With events planned such as movie nights, slime nights and pizza parties, Women in Business looks to create a deeper connection among students in their academic lives. The organization had its kickoff through its first meeting, a pizza meet-and-greet hosted on Sept. 3 and made possible by the Women and Gender Resource Center.

Looking forward, the club will welcome guest speakers from the non-profit organization Girls on the Run to speak and present their programs, their experiences as women running a business and more. In her fifth semester working in the Buccaneer Involvement Guide program, Fanuele hopes to continue giving back to the student community through empowerment, support systems and career-making pathways.
