No team, no storm could stop the Buccaneers from victory. After a severe weather scare Friday and into early Saturday, the ETSU Buccaneers walked into SoCon Conference foe, The Citadel Bulldogs, coming up with a 34-17 victory.

Before the Bucs and Bulldogs could even take the field, the journey there was a hectic one. Traveling throughout the Appalachian Highlands, the Bucs faced down Mother Nature, as Hurricane Helene ravaged the area. “We’ve got to pray and be ready to help, give them (Johnson City) something to celebrate about,” said a visibly emotional ETSU Head Coach,Tre Lamb to local ABC4Sports in Charleston, South Carolina, after the Bucs secured the win.

Once the game began over fours late in Charleston, the Bucs would only come up with a field goal after the first quarter of action. Despite the slow start, the Bucs were able to find the end zone, before taking the 13-3 halftime lead.

As the second quarter began, the game would shift completely in favor of the resilient Bucs. With an outstanding fourth quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 21-7, ETSU capped the victory.

The Bucs high scoring offense was powered by that of the run game. With 308 yards on 40 attempts, and four rushing touchdowns total, stars such as senior running back, Bryson Irby (Douglasville, Ga.) who only saw the field in the second half, was able to rack 126 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown to cap it off.

The Bucs return home Oct. 5, against longtime conference foe Chattanooga in a homecoming showdown.
