In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, ETSU Health hosts their second mini-photo sessions for breast cancer fighters and survivors. This is one of the many events ETSU Health hosts to spread awareness and honor these individual’s battles.

“The sessions came about as a result of ETSU Health’s efforts to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month and celebrate the strength and beauty of those who are battling this form of cancer,” said Kristen Early, a marketing and communications professional at ETSU Health.

On Oct. 18 and 21, people with a story to tell were allowed to attend the mini-photo sessions at the ETSU Health’s clinic auditorium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This special shoot was decorated with pink and flowers so these survivors and fighters could feel their inner beauty.

Dr. Natalie Scott, assistant professor at the VA campus, spoke on her powerful moment as she did a photo session with two of her patients. She mentioned that they took the photo shoot from a patient and physician standpoint to tell their stories and what breast cancer meant for their lives and how it shaped their appearances.

“Anything we can do to tell a story that makes it more personal, like, hey, that’s my mom, my sister, or cousin, maybe that will make people think they should get a mammogram. It’s about motivating people for early detection by telling stories of survivors,” shared Scott.

The Breast Cancer mini-photo session had a great turnout and helped make these women feel valued and heard. As Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, ETSU Health is hosting other events to celebrate and honor these fighters and survivors, such as a bra drive.  The American Cancer Society, along with ETSU Health, are hosting Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on Oct. 27 at Virgina High School.
