The Staff Senate Holiday Food Drive is an annual event benefiting the staff members of ETSU. Food boxes, along with a $20 Food City gift card, will be distributed to those who may be in need of assistance for the upcoming holidays.

“It is an important event because a lot of people struggle but don’t come out and say it,” said David Finney, Staff Senate president and director of fiscal affairs for the Office of Budget and Financial Planning.

Donations began Oct. 10 and will be open until Nov. 14. There are drop-off boxes located in every academic building as well as most administrative buildings. There are also drop-off locations on the VA campus.

The requested items include canned corn and green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix and boxed potatoes.

Donations can be physical or monetary, with cash collection canisters being placed at cash registers around the D.P. Culp Student Center.

Monetary donations can also be mailed to Suzy Hooven or Stefanie Murphy at PO Box 70291 by Nov. 11. Please make checks payable to ETSU.

Fifty-five food boxes were given out last year, which was the drive’s biggest turn out yet. “It is a great way to give back and help those in need who can be supported locally,” said Finney. He added they keep everything confidential and will not question those who have signed up.

If there are excess supplies, they will be donated to Bucky’s Food Pantry after baskets have been distributed.

The drive is self-funded and organized by the Staff Senate. It is made by staff, for staff. For questions or if you or someone you know is in need, contact hooven@etsu.edu or murphys@etsu.edu. Photo ID will be required for basket pickup.
