ETSU’s Alex Crafton

This past week, the Bucs women’s golf team had to prove just exactly who they are once again. Making the travel to Knoxville, Tenn. The team was ready to compete. The official Mercedes-Benz Collegiate competition is a 54-hole women’s intercollegiate competition, with the University of Tennessee-Knoxville being the host. Before a champion can be crowned, the multi-day competition breaks down into three total rounds. Each team is scheduled 18 holes worth of golf each day of competition, with an eventual best team crowned victorious at the end.

As for the Buccaneers, it was senior Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.), who would be making her return to the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate competition, where she debuted her college career back in 2021 to really shine. Overall, Crafton would finish 21st as an individual competitor, leading the path for the Bucs in the process. In addition, with the likes of sophomore Brianna Castaldi (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) who would ultimately finish with 8-over, as the entire team as a unit would finish up the tournament at 12 overall. In state, host Tennessee would tie with Campbell University for second at 15-over.

With the competition now in the rearview mirror, the ETSU women’s golf team’s fall season is officially complete. Luckily, the women’s golf team has a short turnaround, returning this upcoming Feb. The Bucs will start the new season at the UNCG/ACCP Invitational from Feb. 9-11 in Palm City, Fla. There will be expectations, as the Buccaneers are swinging to compete more than ever before.
