To continue raising awareness for Hurricane Helene’s impact, SGA is hosting a pride walk painting event.
Students are allowed to paint the pride walk during Preview Week, but SGA Secretary of State Skylar Brackett shared members of SGA wanted student organizations to have an opportunity to paint. Student organizations will be given a 10 feet by 10 feet square to show ETSU pride and share an uplifting message. The top 30 designs will be chosen and organizations will be painting their square on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event was originally planned before Hurricane Helene and shifted to the theme of Appalachia Strong: Paint the Spirit of Our Community, to better serve the area. “We thought that it was fitting to be able to allow student organizations to obviously incorporate things from their own organization,” said Brackett, “but also come together as an ETSU community and uplift our students and continue to raise awareness for the efforts going on with the hurricane relief.”
Director of Student Activities and Student Organizations Carter Warden shared that campus executives are pleased with the new location of the pride walk and the opportunities for students. “The administration and facilities are glad to see the whole thing painted,” said Warden. “When they found out we wanted to fill the rest with squares, they were really excited about it.”
Brackett looks forward to this event becoming recurring on campus alongside the annual painting of the pride walk. “It’s a big ETSU tradition,” said Brackett. “A big goal is continuing that tradition and continuing to build ETSU tradition and culture.”
Another event that Brackett is looking forward to is the SGA X UNICEF Trunk-or-Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 30. “I’m excited for everything coming up. I am super excited to see people coming together,” shared Brackett.
