Throughout November, ETSU will be celebrating Indigenous People Heritage Month by hosting a variety of events.

The Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center and the Native American Student Organization is organizing events throughout the month such as feature speakers, open conversations and celebrations.

The celebrations started with Social Justice Issues, Stories and Songs in the D.P. Culp Student Center Cave on Monday, Nov. 4. The event lasted from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5 in D.P. Culp Room 219, ETSU held a series of lectures featuring “Insights from Our Community.” The event had guest speakers Debi Thibeault and Terry Shinn.

The first lecture is part of the Cultural Diversity and Speaking Series which is being put on through the Department of Social Work. It will be running from 9 through 10:30 a.m. The second lecture is Social/Cultural Foundation and will last from 11:05 a.m. through 12:15 p.m.

At the Multicultural Center on Nov. 5 and 6, ETSU will see storytelling sessions with Terry Shinn. The first session will be on Nov. 5 at 6:30 and lasting through 7:30 p.m. Two following sessions will be on on Nov. 6. from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and then from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Throughout Nov. 12, ETSU will also host a radio interview show with Debi Thibeault. Tune in at WETS 89.5. The show will feature interviews and stories covering experiences and cultural insights from Native American elders.

The final set of events will be hosted later this month. Nov. 13 will be an in-person coffee hour hosted in the Multicultural Center from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 19 will be an online coffee hour that you can join through Zoom. It will last from noon through 1 p.m.
