Look out, the Bucs are going global! The Study Abroad Fair took place in the D.P. Culp Student Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7. The fair promoted faculty-led programs, which will take place next spring and summer breaks, and aims to support students who are embarking on a study abroad journey.

The fair had a great turn-out, specifically the “swag giveaway” which provided students a prize for speaking with 10 tables. Around 50 students received prizes with an estimated 150 more passing through or engaging with at least one table.

There were representatives from Academic Programs International, WorldStrides, Cooperative Center for Study Abroad and Harlaxton College in Grantham, U.K., who joined the fair to share about the many international opportunities.

Representatives from campus included the Department of Appalachian Studies, the Department of Literature and Language, the Multicultural Center and many more.

“Study abroad is for everyone, I cannot emphasize that enough,” said Courtney Lucas, director of education abroad. Lucas added there are programs for every major, background and identity including international and graduate students.

“My favorite part is always talking to the students, hearing their interests, helping them make connections and helping them know it is possible for them to study abroad,” said Lucas. “It is our biggest event of the year, so we get to connect with a lot of people who we may not have gotten to connect with otherwise.”

Lucas noted the study abroad ambassadors for their help with the fair as well as the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of Prestigious Awards, the Pride Center, the Multicultural Center and Military and Veteran Services. “Lots of offices around campus can help students make their study abroad dream a reality.”
