Attention all students: Those old clothes aren’t completely useless! Put them to use at the clothing swap by trading your old that could be someone’s new. On Friday, Nov. 15, the Collegiate Merchandising Association is hosting its first-ever clothing swap located in the Culp Cave from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The CMA is a program at ETSU that is open to all students on campus. This group helps give students information and insight for professional development and networking opportunities. Mckenzie Dawson, the president of CMA, and Deven McCombs, vice president, speak about how the clothing swap came about and the purpose of this event.

“Our main goal is to fight the waste that is created by fast fashion every year. We’re trying to cut down on that waste and promote sustainability on campus within the fashion industry,” said McCombs.

This idea led McCombs to create the clothing swap. He mentions that this is supposed to feel like a genuine shopping experience, but instead of money, people will trade their clothing items. McCombs also says that it allows students to thrift without the hassle of using money.

“We just want to bring people together. Thrifting is huge, but it also costs money, and we’re just college students, so being able to truly trade clothes without any form of money needed just shows that they don’t have to spend any money to buy new clothes,” said McCombs.

The rules are simple. Bring in a max of 15 clothing items in good condition and start swapping! For more information on the clothing swap, be sure to check out ETSU Merchandising on Instagram.

With the help of BUC Fund and SGA, the CMA has come together to make this idea happen. Be sure to check their Instagram for any more upcoming events throughout the school year, but until then, take those old clothes off the hanger and shop in a more sustainable way!
