The Department of Music at ETSU is getting ready for its first audition day this week for students from high schools around the country to tryout for ETSU’s music program. Additionally, on Nov. 14, the department is introducing the first-ever “Music Major for a Day.”

Alan Stevens, chair of the Department of Music at ETSU, will be hosting the event.

“We want to allow students [to be] able to sit in on ensembles, recitals, classes and lessons,” said Stevens. “We’ve discussed this [the event] before, so we decided to give it a try at ETSU this year.”

ETSU will be hosting around 100 students to “explore what the ETSU Music Department has to offer.”

In addition to sitting in on recitals and other things, there will be a recital hour for students to come experience as audience members. Recital hour means that there will be “performances by students in the department demonstrating their best performances,” as a way to show what the department fosters and creates.

The department is already preparing for the event’s return next fall. In addition to planning this event, the Department of Music is holding audition days for ETSU students on three separate dates throughout the remainder of the year.
