ETSU’s Marching Bucs are going to march in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. On Thursday, Nov. 28, the Marching Bucs will be seen by the entire nation.
For the first time in ETSU’s history, the Marching Bucs have been chosen as one of 10 bands to march in the parade. Over 100 bands applied to participate in the event.
After only nine years since its foundation, the Marching Bucs have made an impressive return since the reformation of the band in 2015.
In 2003, ETSU lost its marching band. For 12 years the Buccaneers went without having a band before Dr. Joe Moore was hired. Moore is currently the director of athletic bands, the associate director of bands, and an associate professor of music.
In the time that Moore has been at ETSU, he has grown the band from nothing to one of the largest collegiate bands in the nation with over 360 active members.
Now Moore is leading the Marching Bucs to New York City for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade later this month.
The creative producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Wesley Whatley, stated that the Marching Bucs were chosen due to the leadership of Moore and their ability to “consistently deliver dynamic, impactful performances at games and exhibitions across the country.”
The Marching Bucs have been running a fundraising campaign to help them make it to New York City. The Macy’s team contributed $10,000 to help start off the funding.
