The Veterans Day Program will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 3:45 p.m at the Veterans Memorial to show gratitude to our local veteran population. The Office of Military and Veteran Services and ROTC come together to host this treasured event with the support of the Department of Music, the University School Choir and the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

The event is open to everyone with attendance expected from university leadership, members of the Board of Trustees, members of the military affiliated student population and various local veterans.

“This annual event has been extremely successful in previous years. We have received tremendous support from the campus community and local partners,” said Assistant Director of Military and Veteran Services Jason Wilder.

Col. Matthew Skaggs from the U.S. Army Futures Command will be speaking at the program, detailing his story and the accomplishments of his soldiers.

“This event is important because it shows that the campus appreciates the service and sacrifices of our veterans and military affiliated families,” said Wilder. “This brief hour is an opportunity for those that may not be familiar with the veteran community to have a quick glimpse into what our veterans and service members are accomplishing.”

The Office of Equity and Inclusion is sponsoring a free dinner for veterans and current service members from 5 to 7 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Student Center Dining Hall. Meal vouchers can be picked up in Yoakley Hall or the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

“My favorite part of this event is the opportunity to have outside speakers provide information about their service and what our current service members are accomplishing,” said Wilder.

If you are interested in volunteering with a veteran service organization, there are opportunities with the VFW, American Legion and DAV as well as the local salvation army.
