With Christmas coming up, many students of other faiths are also gathering. The Muslim Student Association, led by Hasaan Shakil, is helping to put on a “Concert for Change” for students to enjoy this Friday, November 22nd!
As the holiday season approaches, the Muslim Student Association is inviting students to celebrate their faith with a “Concert for Change.”
The concert will host opinions from various countries that have been oppressed throughout the course of history. MSA hopes to encourage dialogue amongst people with varying opinions, not to start a debate, but to foster civil conversations. The organizations believes that “polarization has increased on both sides,” according to Shakil, while conflicts arise across the world.
“We [MSA] want to express that there is validity in everyone’s arguments,” said Shakil. “Being respectful and listening is how we move forward…hate will get us nowhere.”
The event will take place Friday, November 20, in the Culp Auditorium at 8 p.m. The event is free to students. MSA is encouraging attendees to wear cultural or formal attire to the event.
MSA will be hosting events throughout the month of Ramadan. Their events are open to all students at ETSU, reinforcing the message that “Islam is a religion of peace, not of war and conflict.”
