Although ETSU does not offer extravagant ballrooms with beautiful music, there are still plenty of chances for students to get into dancing and even learn new skills. An example of said experience is a recurring dance class titled “A Step in the Right Direction,” led by Ruth Taylor Read.
When speaking about why this experience is being brought to ETSU, Ruth stated that this will be for students “who want to refine their technique and build confidence in four iconic ballroom and Latin dance styles.”
Although that may make it sound like the event is only for experienced dancers, Ruth was able to reiterate that it is okay “whether you’re a beginner or experienced dancer” to attend. This experience is simply a way for students to learn and be able to “confidently dance at social events or competitions.”
The class itself will include step-by-step instruction as well as focus on proper posture, timing, and footwork, concerning the four dance styles the class will focus in: “the smooth elegance of the Foxtrot, the passionate movements of the Rumba, the energetic rhythms of the Swing, and the lively flair of the Salsa”.
Anyone interested can attend these classes with a $75 fee for the 3 scheduled classes. These classes are taking place on March 1st, 15th, and 22nd, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in Gilbreath Hall, room 115. Students can come for any of the dance classes, from all three to just one–anyone is welcome for any amount of time.
