The computer lab in Lucille Clement Hall will soon be relocated, and the construction site behind the Ada Earnest House will be the new location for the data center.
Bill Rasnic, associate vice president of facilities management, planning and construction, said there were issues with the data center being located in Lucille Clement.
“Residents lived above the data center,” Rasnic said. “There was never any major damage, but there were some close calls. The showers in the building caused some minor water damage that could have been major catastrophes.”
After one year of designing, the construction started at the end of December 2015. The new data center will be 5,000 square feet, and the budget is $2.7 million.
The building should be completed in December 2016, but facilities management believes the data center will not be up and running until 2018.
Rasnic is not sure what the old data center space in Lucille Clement will become. He said there is talk that the space could be potential housing, but no final decision has been made.
