As the end of the semester quickly approaches, ETSU students gear up for finals during the dead week. To help students during this time, Sherrod Library is hosting stress-relief events.

Outreach and Distance Library Coordinator Jonathan Wilson shared the week is one of his favorites because it allows the library to give appreciation back to the students. “It’s a high anxiety part of the year,” said Wilson, “It’s our job to make that a little bit less stressful for you.”

The week began with graduation cap decorating and rock painting in the University Commons from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Board games were set up from 12 to 4 p.m. and popcorn was available for students to enjoy. The Sexuality and Gender Alliance offered snacks and study tips from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, therapy dogs visited Borchuck Plaza from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “It gives everyone a little bit of ease to stop the everyday hustle and bustle and kind of take a moment and enjoy it with the dogs,” said Wilson.

Another event on Tuesday was “De-Stress” from the Counseling Center from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Students were educated on breathing exercises and meditation techniques.

The highly anticipated “Random Acts of Pizza” returned Tuesday as well with pizzas being handed out at 5 p.m. Wilson shared that the event is usually the most attended.

Wednesday’s events included board games, popcorn and newspaper crafts with the East Tennessean from 11:30 am to 1:30 p.m. “It’s kind of fun and quirky,” said Wilson. “It just takes you out of the moment.”

New to dead week, “Video Game Night” will be held Thursday night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wilson shared that the idea for the event came from the Library Student Advisory Group.

To conclude the week’s activities, Thursday will consist of board games, graduation cap decoration, rock painting and tabling from the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

Wilson shared that coloring pages, origami and Legos were available all week if students needed a brief break from studying.

In lieu of finals, Wilson shared that Dunkin’ will stay open until midnight on April 30 and May 1.
