The ETSU men’s and women’s track teams split up over the weekend to tackle two tournaments.

On Feb 15, the long-distance team traveled to the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, hosted by Vanderbilt University, while the rest of the team traveled to the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia, hosted by Liberty University.

The long-distance runners had great races with freshman Miguel Parrilla (Knoxville, Tennessee) placing seventh in his event with a time of 1:52.25, which was the best of all the freshmen. Junior Mathew Scarr (Wamberal, NSW, Australia) also finished strong with a time of 8:12.78 in the 3000m race placing him at ninth.

“We had a very good day in Nashville as the entire group ran personal or season bests,” said head coach George Watts.

Meanwhile in Lynchburg, the team also set personal records and placed respectfully. Sophomore Aliyah Hill (Snellville, Georgia) set a new personal record placing fourth in the long jump with a 5.70m jump.

Freshman Molly Rhudy (Chilhowie, Virginia) was right behind Hill with a leap of 5.39m, and a new personal record as well. Junior Kendra Whitehurst (Atlanta, Georgia) marked at 5.49m in the long jump.

Freshman Patra Williams (Lithonia, Georgia) placed third in the high jump after surpassing 1.58m after the first four rounds. Hill continued her placing with the triple jump of 12.09m placing eighth.

The second day of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational continued the Bucs’ success with sophomore Kennedi Johnson (Nashville, Tennessee) placing seventh in finals and setting a new personal record of 8.78s in the 60m hurdles. Sophomore Britney Griffith (Kingsport, Tennessee) completed the 400m dash in 59.83s creating a new personal record for herself.

This was the team’s last warm-up weekend as they are competing in the Southern Conference Championships next weekend on Feb. 29 and March 1 in Lexington, Virginia.
