The Bucs had several great individual performances at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships, but none like the resurgence of Jason Farr in the high jump.
Farr won the high jump at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships this past weekend with a jump of 6 feet 9 inches for his first conference title since the 1999 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships.
Track and Field Coach Matt High was pleased with Farr’s performance and summed it up best saying, “Jason Farr’s getting back to his old self.”
During the 1999 season Farr jumped as high as 7’1/4″, but has not come close to that since, due to tendonitis in both ankles and a compression fracture in his back.
“Last summer I didn’t think I’d be back,” Farr said.
But with the help of chiropractor Dr. Richard Kind of Johnson City, Farr has worked to get back to his old form.
“He helped me tremendously,” Farr said.
With his best jump of the season being 6’6″, Farr was not one of the favorites to take home the conference crown.
“Throughout the season I’ve been searching for my approach,” he said. “I’ve been working on getting my steps right.”
Farr definitely got everything right to win the conference title, and he is optimistic about the upcoming outdoor season.
“Seven feet is coming pretty soon,” he said. “I’m as healthy as I’ve been in two years.”
Farr will compete in the USA Track and Field Championships in Atlanta, Ga., March 2-3.
