A new award recognizing a student, faculty or staff member who helps students will be presented this spring.
OASIS, the student organization for adults, will be giving out the “Above and Beyond Award” at the Adult Learner and Adult Educator of the Year reception scheduled for May 22 at noon in the East Tennessee room of the Culp Center.
Once Again Students in School (OASIS) is a social support group for the non-traditional student, within the Center for Adult Programs and Services (CAPS).
OASIS provides a forum for these students and is also involved in helping to implement and develop some of the programs of the CAPS office.
“So many awards go to the highly visible people, this award recognizes people who go out of their way to help students,” said Karen Sullivan, the assistant director of CAPS.
OASIS members will nominate and vote for the recipient, who will receive $100 and be honored at the annual Adult Learner and Adult Educator of the Year reception.
“The membership has been very excited because this is such a positive thing,” said Sullivan. Anyone can be nominated for the award, whether it be faculty and staff or even other students.
OASIS meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 a.m. in the ARC lobby on the second floor of the Culp Center. For information about joining OASIS, call the CAPS office at 439-5641.
