The ETSU athletic department announced today that Deane Webb has been hired as the women’s volleyball head coach.
For the past four seasons, Webb has served as the head coach at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. He was a two-time NAIA Conference Coach of the Year and led his team to a 134-51 overall record. Webb took over a team that finished 7-31 in 1996 and improved their record to 24-19 in his first season. In his second year, Indiana Wesleyan finished 35-16 and followed with a 32-12 mark in 1999.
His 2000 squad set school records for wins (43) and winning percentage (.915/43-4). Indiana Wesleyan earned the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championship and was ranked as high as 11th in the NAIA polls. The NCCAA National Coach of the Year, Webb was also nominated for NAIA National Coach of the Year.
Over the past four years, Webb has also served as a head coach and assistant coach for the Munciana Volleyball Club. The Munciana teams form the top club program in the nation and have earned the national championship in every year Webb has been involved with the organization.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Webb earned a bachelor of science in kinesiology in 1995 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. He then went on to earn a master of science in kinesiology at the University of North Texas in 1998. While at Indiana Wesleyan, Webb served as an instructor and assistant professor in the department of health, physical education, recreation and athletics. He also served as a teaching fellow at North Texas.
Webb has served in many leadership roles off the court as well. He has served as the Mid-Central Conference Volleyball chair from the fall of 1999 to March 2001. Webb also spent a year as the NCAA Midwest Regional Chair (1998-99).
East Tennessee State volleyball finished the 2000 season at 16-13 overall, 12-8 in the Southern Conference.
