The ETSU men’s tennis team had their 23-match Southern Conference winning streak snapped with a 4-3 loss to UNC-Greensboro Saturday afternoon.
Gustavo Gomez won his 11th straight match, as he took the first contest of the day, 6-2, 6-1. UNCG won at No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles to edge ETSU and improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the SoCon.
Nigel Mitten defeated Marcos Pavlovich at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-4 and John Clark downed Roberto Fernandez at No. 3, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
Juan Yannuzzi halted UNC-G’s momentum momentarily, defeating Marcio Torrez 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.
Diego Goya defeated Pablo Sahagun at No. 5 6-3, 6-0 and Bo McWhorter downed Antonio Bugge 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 at No. 6.
ETSU (5-7, 2-1) captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The Spartans’ No. 3 doubles team, Goya and Mitten, defeated Sahagun and David Poole 8-3.
