At 10 a.m. Monday in the East Tennessee Room of the Culp Center, Carson Gentry, a retired ETSU employee, will officially receive the Purple Heart Award from Lt. Col. David Hubner, chair of the department of military science.
On Nov. 29 and Dec. 1, 1950, Sgt. Gentry was wounded and subsequently taken prisoner by the Chinese in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War.
Yet, because of an oversight, he was never officially presented the Purple Heart.
Gentry has been quite active in ex-POW activities, having started the first chapter of this kind in East Tennessee.
The public is invited to attend this brief ceremony.
For more information on the ceremony, call University Relations at 439-4317.
