ETSU’s Undergraduate Student Honors Exhibition will continue through Friday in Slocumb Galleries located in Ball Hall.
This exhibition honors and showcases the most talented students in ETSU’s department of art and design.
An opening reception was held Monday. Artwork was sold and prizes were awarded to the artists, including $500 in awards from the law firm of Baker Donelson Bearman & Caldwell, $50 gift certificates from both Lady Bug Gallery and Johnson City Customer Framing, a $25 gift certificate from Essyx Gallery and 50 pounds of stoneware clay from Potters Gallery.
The juror of this competitive exhibit was Patrick Terjack, gallery coordinator for the renowned Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg.
The Pittsburgh native served two years as artist in education through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
He participated in the Career Advancement for Visual Artists Fellowship Program of the National Foundation for Advancement of the Arts in Miami Beach, Fla., where he also prepared exhibitions for the Wolfsonian Museum for four years.
In addition, he was a staff member of the Joanne Rapp Gallery/The Hand and the Spirit in Scottsdale, Ariz., for five years and received an Individual Artist Fellowship in three-dimensional media from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
Terjack holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in ceramics with k-12 teacher certification from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a master of fine arts degree from Arizona State University. He taught as an adjunct professor of ceramics for Florida International University of Miami for four years and Barry University of Miami for one year.
Only students enrolled in an art class were eligible to participate in the show, which received about 300 entries, 102 of which were juried.
All media was included: drawing, painting, mixed media assemblages, fibers, sculpture, photography, printmaking, jewelry, computer generated art and book arts.
