The ETSU women’s tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to the Furman Lady Paladins, 7-0, in tennis action Friday afternoon.
At No. 1 singles, Mami Inoue dropped the closest match of the day to Furman’s Megan Dunigan 6-3, 6-1 after having a portion of the match moved inside the Memorial Center due to rain.
The Bucs fortunes did not get any better as Jessica Irey dropped her match with Meredith Moore 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Furman’s Gene Holman defeated Cara Prupas 6-2,6-0.
Freshman Tatiana Arriaran was defeated by Natalie The, 6-1,6-1 at No. 4 singles. Emelie Isaksson handily defeated Aimee Villavicencio 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
The final singles match of the afternoon was won by Krista Thomson. She defeated ETSU’s Susan Torbett 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Doubles competition saw the team of Inoue and Irey drop an 8-1 decision to Furman’s Dunigan and Moore. Prupas and Arriaran also dropped their No. 2 doubles match to Holman and The, by an 8-0 count. At No. 3 doubles, Villavicencio and Torbett could not overcome Thomson and Shellie Cochran, losing 8-3.
With the loss, the Bucs drop to 5-6 on the season and 2-1 in the Southern Conference. The Bucs will return to action Wednesday against Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., at 2:30 p.m.
