The Appalachian State women’s tennis team defeated East Tennessee State, 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at Boone, N.C.
The Buccaneers (6-7, 3-2) won three of the first four singles matches. At, No. 1 singles, Paty Vega defeated ASU’s Tammy Beaulieu, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Mami Inoue defeated Tonya Eberhart of ASU, 6-1, 6-3. Appalachian State picked up their first singles victory as Allison Lane defeated ETSU’s Jessica Irey at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. ETSU got back on track as Cara Prupas defeated Jennifer Fayad, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
Appalachian State (6-7, 3-2) won the final two singles matches as Elena Berger defeated Tatiana Arrarian, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 and Kathryn Brown defeated Susan Torbett, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Mountaineers won two of three doubles matches to win the doubles point and the match.
ETSU’s Vega and Inoue defeated Beaulieu and Fayad of ASU, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Prupas and Villavicencio of ETSU fell to Brown and Eberhart at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. At No. 3 doubles, ASU’s Lane and Altenburger defeated Irey and Arrarian, 8-4.
