Several athletes from the Buccaneer track and field squads recorded personal records (PRs) at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., this past weekend.
Leading the way with PRs on the Lady Buc side were senior Emily Campbell and junior Lauren Campbell (no relation).
Emily Campbell set a PR in the 3000-meter run for outdoor track with a time of 10 minutes and 14.36 seconds.
With that time Campbell surpassed Appalachian State University’s Johanna Allen (10 minutes and 27.11 seconds) for the top spot in the Southern Conference rankings in the 3000-meter run.
Lauren Campbell also set a PR for outdoor track in the 800-meter run with her time of 2:12.19.
Campbell’s effort also put her at the top of the conference rankings in the 800-meter run, bettering her teammate Roseline Addo’s time of 2:13.16 for the top spot.
“Hopefully bringing their times down will give them an extra boost of confidence going into the conference (meet),” track and field Coach Matt High said.
Mitch Thompson also had a huge PR, running 4:03.46 in the 1500-meter run for the Bucs; a 12-second improvement said High.
The 400-meter dash trio of Evan Hawkins, Roseline Addo and Jennifer Howard capped a tough week of training at the Duke Invitational.
“Evan was very tired this weekend,” High said. “He had very tough workouts last week.”
Hawkins still put up some tremendous times, running 10.96 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 21.76 in the 200-meter dash, both placing him toward the top of the conference rankings.
Addo also competed well, running 25.58 and 55.48 for the 200 and 400-meter dashes, respectively.
“The week took a toll on them (Roseline and Evan),” High said. “They were really flat.”
“We’re looking at the big picture,” he said. “We were training
