Renowned poet Nikki Giovanni (left) visited campus Monday night in the Martha Street Culp Auditorium. Giovanni has been a professor of English since 1987 at Virginia Tech, and has published numerous books of poetry, some of which have sold over 100,000 copies. Over the past 30 years, Giovanni has earned a prominent place as a strong voice of the African-American community through her poetry and prose, establishing herself as a best-selling poet, author, essayist, and lecturer. Her free public appearance at the university was sponsored by the Black Affairs Association with funding from the office of multicultural affairs, Student Government Association 606 Funds and Lambda Society.
