The ETSU volleyball team had four players register double-doubles as the Buccaneers turned back Chattanooga 3-1 in a heated Southern Conference match Friday night at Maclellan Gym.
UTC’s loss broke its five-game season-opening winning streak and it was the first loss to ETSU since the 1995 SoCon tournament.
The Lady Bucs (4-1, 1-1) won the first two games 30-20 and 30-27 before Chattanooga (5-1, 1-1) rallied for a 30-24 win in game three.
The Lady Bucs, however, took game four to win the match 30-22.
Senior Carey Cavanaugh led the Lady Bucs with 52 assists, 17 digs and eight kills. Sophomore Kate Steidle had 13 kills and 15 digs to go along with five aces.
Also registering double-doubles for the Lady Bucs were sophomore Lissa Allen (14 kills, 13 digs) and senior Amber Ciskowski (10 kills, 11 digs).
Freshman Natalie Atzinger also had a good match with 15 kills and sophomore Jessica Miller picked up 13 digs.
Chattanooga’s Karl Krouse and Cheryl Theis both had 18 kills and five Lady Mocs had double-digit digs, Kelton Mack 18, Krouse 16, Theis and Dominique Mayor 15 and Julie Buck 13. Mack also had 42 assists and Krouse and Buck had three aces each.
The Lady Bucs will next travel to UNC-Asheville on Sept. 11.
The first home match for ETSU’s volleyball team will be Sept. 16 against Southern Conference opponent Georgia Southern. The home matches will be played at Brooks Gym.
