The men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed in the Great American Cross-Country Festival at Winthrop Farm Meadows in Charlotte, N.C., last Friday night.
In the men’s race the Bucs finished 19th out of 29 teams with a team score of 547 points in a field which included North Carolina State University, ranked 11th in the Division I cross country polls and the University of Michigan ranked 19th.
North Carolina State won the team title with 34 points as the University of Michigan placed second with 67 points.
The Bucs were led by freshman Bradley Yewer, who covered the eight-kilometer course in 25 minutes and 40.9 seconds to finish 48th overall.
Yewer was followed closely by senior Greg Sprowl (52nd) who was timed at 25:45.9.
Sophomore David Haefner was the Bucs third man (162nd) with sophomore Lawrence Lockhart (224th) and senior Mike Farkas (251st) rounding out the Bucs scoring.
In the women’s race the Lady Bucs also faced a strong field as six of the top 25 teams in the nation were represented, including three top 10 teams.
The Lady Bucs finished 23rd overall out of 31 teams with a team score of 658 points, as the ninth-ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack finished first with 41 points, with fourth-ranked Brigham Young second with 59 points.
The Lady Bucs were led by junior Roseline Addo, who finished 93rd overall in a time of 19:05.7 over the 5K course.
Right behind Addo was the Lady Bucs’ No. 2 runner, sophomore Emily Chaney in 96th place in a time of 19:07.9.
Senior Lauren Campbell was the Lady Bucs third runner (215th) with freshman Jennifer Habbestad (231st) and senior Jennifer Howard (259th) rounding out the team scoring for the Lady Bucs.
Both squads will be back in action at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C., on Friday.
