The women’s tennis team competed in the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., last weekend.
The Lady Bucs’ Jessica Irey competed in Flight A of the tournament, loosing to Katarzyna Finkowska of Appalachian State in two sets, 2-6 and 4-6.
Irey then competed in the Flight A consolation round and lost a tough match to Marshall’s Danielle Hock, 3-6, 2-6.
In Flight B, the Lady Bucs’ Aimee Villavicencio won her first round match by default over Katherine Erikkson from Virginia Tech.
Villavicencio was then defeated by Campbell’s Carmen Lender in two sets, 3-6, 1-6.
Villavicencio then faced Renata Hlavova of Hampton in the Flight B consolation round, losing 0-6 and 1-6.
In double competition the Lady Bucs’ team of Irey and Villavicencio lost to Virginia Tech’s Ashleigh Sarver and Alena Simmonds by the score of 7-9.
Tatiana Arrarian was to compete in doubles action with Irey, but withdrew last Friday morning, so Villavicencio took her pl.ace.
The women’s tennis team will next compete in the NISBET Tournament at Campbell University in North Carolina on Friday and Saturday.
